About

The idea behind this blog took shape over an extended period. One day I decided that a couple of years procrastinating was enough, and took the plunge, despite competition with other time commitments.

I’m wanting to look at some of the more interesting aspects of the Northern Rivers, the forgotten corners, the things that virtually nobody pays attention to. As everyone who lives here knows, the North Coast of New South Wales is one of the most beautiful places in the world to live, and has a diverse, eclectic community that is somewhat oriented towards alternative values and lifestyles.

My core area of exploration is largely bounded by Yelgun (Byron Shire) in the north, New Italy (south of Woodburn) to the south, and Casino to the west.

I’m hoping to make the blog a bit quirky, playful, artistic, historical, and the opposite of Twitter.

The opposite of Twitter….??!

What I mean is that in contrast to today’s online social media environment where the mass consciousness is dumbing down and attention spans are shortening, Uniquely North Coast intends to go into some detail and run to some length. We’re going to rebel and buck the trend.

Suggestions are encouraged, but please bear in mind the following:

  • You have a greater chance of your idea being included if you relate your suggestion to the blog’s dominant themes.
  • Unfortunately I can only cover a fraction of the stories set to us, so if you’re not covered please don’t take it personally.
  • All suggestions are filed for future reference, so there is no need to send in the same suggestion twice.
  • No paid advertorials are accepted.

To protect privacy, anyone can opt to choose how they are identified, with complete anonymity (including geographical anonymity) an option. Where possible, posts are drafted in liaison with the people behind the subject of the post.

Comments are filtered, and to maximise your chances of being published, stay on-topic and try to add to the subject in some way.

If you are annoyed by ads that you see here, they can be avoided via the use of free software such as Adblock Plus or uBlock Origin. They work for a range of browsers without any issues.
